The 2021 Capsule Wardrobe

ACS_0470.JPG

2020 has certainly been a crazy year, and undoubtedly one that has changed the way we dress. Office-attire and party shoes were abandoned for sweats and slippers, but with hope of a more-normal future in sight, we can once again look forward to getting dressed.

However, some elements of the way we’ve been dressing will carry forward into the future. A focus on comfort, ease, and versatility paired with the need to wear items that feel special and exciting will define the new year.

Read on for 7 essentials for your 2021 wardrobe:

Loafers

Loafers have been a classic shoe for centuries, and each season has a new take on the exact silhouette and styling. A block kitten heel elevates the simple jean and a tee, and lug sole styles add an edge to this traditionally preppy shoe. Though the phrase borrowed from the boys may be passé, the intention behind it is on-trend.

Blazers

They’re oversized, deconstructed, double breasted, and pair with everything from a t-shirt to a formal dress. Treat them as you would a classic cardigan, and layer over any outfit for a polished look.

Classic Jewelry

While loud fashion jewelry may be a fun pop, stick to personalized classics for the everyday. Whether you’re a gold or silver lover (or my favorite, mixed metals) you can easily curate a small group of gems that suit your personal style.

Some of my favorite places to shop are Aurate New York, Nouvelle a Tu, And Other Stories, and Local Eclectic.

Slouchy Denim

Gone are the days of skin-tight skinny jeans that pool at your ankle (and good riddance) For 2021, the jeans are slouchy, wide leg, and/or cropped.

Functional Bags

None of us are used to carrying bags anymore, and so striking the balance between he impractical micro-bag and the heavy tote is key. A structured satchel with a functional shoulder strap is the perfect solution.

I love this one in a sleek olive green, for the best size and compartments as an investment. Or this one for the perfect budget-friendly all-day bag.

Silk Slips

Slips have been a staple for a little while now, and they’re not losing popularity anyhtime soon. They’re versatile and comfortable. On thier own, they make a great date-night or going out dress, or you can layer with sweaters and outerwear for a very Parisian look.

Lug Sole Boots

Chunky military-style boots are the shoe of the moment. They pair just as well with a feminine dress as they do with jeans and a tee, and they’re comfortable, practical, and chic.

Ditch the lace-up combat style of the 90’s for zip-ups like these or elastic styles like these.

Lounge Sets

Though we may not be home quite as much, lounge sets are definitely one trend to keep. Look for monochrome sets in neutral colors like tan, beige, black, or dark red, and wear them hanging out at home or dressed up with gold jewelry and sneakers for running errands or going out to lunch.

xoxo,
