7 Cheap NYC Date Night Ideas

7 Cheap Date Ideas in NYC, Cheap things to do in NYC

As a recent college grad on a fashion assistant’s salary, I’m always looking for cheap, fun date ideas in the city. Whether you’re looking for Saturday plans with your man or with the girls, here are 7 dates that won’t break the budget, (and some are even free!)

A Picnic in Central or Prospect Park | Picnics are the simplest and most fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon or weeknight evening in NYC. Grab a blanket, some snacks from Duane Reade and a pack of Whiteclaw (or whatever you want!) and head to one of NYC’s parks! You can make it extravagant and Insta-worthy, or super simple, and just a fun way to spend time with your SO or friends! I will put a plug that Prospect Park is WAY better than Central. Zero tourists, way less crowded, and you can’t see a single skyscraper above the treetops.

30 under 30 rush tickets at Lincoln Center | If you’re up for expanding your cultural horizons, grab same-day rush tickets for any opera, ballet, or symphony at Lincoln Center! Tickets are $30 each, and are usually GREAT seats! See all the details here

Summer movies in Bryant Park | Every Monday night in the summertime, Bryant Park opens up the lawn and plays a movie on the big screen, completely for free! Bring some snacks with you, or splurge on a glass from thier Moet bar and sit back and enjoy movies ranging from Finding Nemo to Carrie. Get the details here

Free Kayaking in the Hudson river | From early spring to late fall, one company offers FREE 20-minute kayaking in downtown Manhattan! Get incredible views of the skyline and snap a few Insta-pics of you and your partner! Get all the details here

Upright Citizens Brigade | This theater is comedy mecca for both up and coming comics, and seasoned pros. Founded by Amy Poehler, and recently moved up to trendy Hells Kitchen, tickets only cost $10-14 and you could very well be watching SNL’s newest cast member! Spend the evening cracking up at sketches, improv, and standup for less than the price of an NYC cocktail. Get all the details here

Syndicated BK | A flick in this dine-in art deco Brooklyn theatre will cost you less than a large iced coffee. Classic films and pop-culture favorites will cost you $4 a ticket, and new-releases are only $7. The food and drinks are amazing and not too expensive, so you can easily grab two cocktails and an appetizer for your movie! Get all the details here

Mini Golfing at Pier 25 | An 18-hole round of mini golf on Pier 25 is just $5 a person, and you get great views over the Hudson River! Get all the details here
