Drugstore Foundation Comparison

As most of you know, I've been in college in NYC for about two months now, and with the college life, comes the college budget! That said, I've had to trade my beloved Dr. Jart BB Cream for a more budget-friendly option. And so the search for a new drugstore foundation began! Here are the 4 that I've been testing out over the past few months:

FIT Dorm Room Tour

After a little over a month of being here, I'm finally all settled in, and had the time to film a dorm tour! I live in Alumni Hall at the Fashion Institute of Technology, in a quad-style apartment!

Rainy Day

How to make it through a cold and rainy New York day: rain boots, pixie pants, and a cozy sweater. Oh, and don't forget Starbucks! Top off the outfit with a chic necklace, headband, and your favorite fall lip color (Berry and Burgundy have been in constant rotation) and you've got yourself a winne

Preparing to Go Platinum

1. Pick The Right Color

You would think there's only one or two shades, right? wrong. Like any hair color, there are many shades and variations. For platinum/white hair you can choose to be more yellow, grey, purple, or silver. I went with just a slight touch of golden blonde. Only enough that I wouldn't be completely white.

If you're not sure, I would stick with whatever your natural tone is (warm vs cool).

2. Prepare Your Hair

My biggest tip would be DO NOT wash your hair for at least 3 days before the appointment! The natural oils will protect your scalp and make it a lot less painful (bleach burning your head, no thank you!)

3. Always Go to a Professional

Yes, box-dye costs $10 and a professional costs $100+, but PLEASE think of the damage that boxed dye will do to your hair!! (not to mention the color-gone-horribly-wrong situation that very well could happen!) A professional will know how to best color and care for your locks and will use only top of the line products that will protect your hair from unnecessary damage!

4. Stock Up

Platinum blonde takes a lot of new products (as well as commitment) Check out my list of the Best Products for Bottle Blondes!

5. Learn to Tame the Roots

There will eventually come a time where you have a full inch of brown roots, and your appointment isn't for another week. So what do you do? Spray and Tease! I use Batiste Light and Blonde to cover a little color, and then lightly tease at the roots. (<-- Remember this!! It will come in handy!!)

I'll Pencil It In

I've only recently started wearing pencil skirts, and I regret missing out on them for so long! They're comfortable and chic! (My favorite pair!) I paired this one from LUSH with a simple grey long sleeve, my DVF Micro Milo, and my favorite statement necklace from J.Crew. Flats kept it comfy and casual for brunch with my roomies Julia (Hey Jule) and Kayla (The Style Genre)!

Sweater weather is finally here, and I was so excited to pull this Lou & Grey sweater out from my closet! I can tell that sweaters, pixie pants, and slip ons are going to be my uniform this fall seeing as they're so comfortable and easy! I also got a chance to wear my new obsession, Clinique's Almost Lipstick in Black Honey (which I reviewed here!)

September Favorites

Another month gone by, another round of beauty favorites! This month focused a lot more on hair and skin products, although I did happen upon two lovely makeup bits as well!

1. Beauty Protector - Protect and Detangle Spray

I received a sample of this little miracle in my August Birchbox and loved it so much, I couldn't live without the full size! My hair is long, tangley, colored, and an absolute nightmare to brush out after a shower. BUT NOT ANYMORE (<-- said in a dramatic announcer voice) This bright red bottle boasts being a detangler, leave-in conditioner, and heat protectant! (Plus it smells great, so what's not to love??) It's sold exclusively at Birchbox, so be sure to check it out!!

2. Amika - Bombshell Blowout Spray

Yet another Birchbox find! I've been using this little gem in place of my regular mousse and I adore it! It adds thickness and volume to thin, lifeless locks and smells awesome while doing it!

3. Stila - Stay All Day Liner

Here's where it gets tricky, trying to find an easy-to-use, waterproof, pigment-rich black liquid eyeliner is like trying to find a unicorn. But so far in the search, Stila takes the cake. In my experience, It's about 75% waterproof, moderately easy to use (but go slow, and have a makeup wipe handy) and it definitely packs a big punch when it comes to pigment!

4. Clinique - Almost Lipstick in Black Honey

If you only buy one lip product all fall, buy this one! The Almost Lipsticks are the ultimate cross between a lipstick and lip balm! Keep it sheer, build it up, whatever you want to do! I've been wearing this non-stop all month! I loved it so much that I did an entire post on it here

5. 100% Pure - Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream

I swear this was made for college students. Late night studying (or watching netflix) are met in the morning will puffy, baggy eyes and that's where this gem comes to the rescue! Pop it on your lids and under your eyes before you make breakfast and by the time you're done, you'll be de-puffed and bright eyed! (Plus it smells like coffee, YUM!)

6. Origins - Clear Improvements Charcoal Mask

And finally, the wondermask that has put my skin back on track! (Changing climate, schedule, stress, etc of college takes a huge toll) I've been using this mask once a week to de-gunk my skin and it has worked wonders!

Fall Flannels

What could possibly be a better way to kick off Fall than with a flannel dress and these adorable new Starbucks cups! (It's not a PSL, I apologize, but my love affair with White Mocha's cannot be replaced)

I paired the dress with my roommate Kayla's brown saddle bag (The Style Genre), a vintage Citizen watch, black ballet flats, and mixed the diamond-back of my LOFT earrings with pearl studs!

The ultimate your-lips-but-better product! I picked up Clinique's Almost Lipstick in Black Honey from Sephora about three weeks ago and I've reached for it almost every day since!

Don't be fooled by the dark color, it gives a sheer wash of berry, which can be built up to a darker shade if needed. The genius of Almost Lipstick shades is that they look good on virtually everyone and can be as sheer or as dark as you'd like!

Clinique brought back Black Honey by popular demand (though I've found Pink Honey at Sephora)
